Die südafrikanische Währung hat gegenüber den grössten Währungen in den letzten 12 Monaten stark an Wert verloren und das zum Vorteil von Europäern, Briten und Amerikanern! Kostete der Rand in März 2007 noch 1 Euro für ca. 7,20 Rand, so bekommt man heute für 1 Euro ca. 11,06* Rand. Das ist eine Kaufkraftsteigerung von fast 35 Prozent gegenüber letztem Jahr. Grundnahrungsmittel sind generell günstiger in Südafrika und das Angebot ist in den Städten wie in Deutschland. Die grössten Supermärkte sind Spar, PicknPay, Woolworth.

Es gibt in Kapstadt die sogenannten Minibus Taxis welche die günstigsten, aber auch die vollsten und unsichersten Taxis sind. Dann gibt es noch normale Taxi’s mit Kilometerpreisen von 8-12 südafrikanischen Rand (ca. 0,80 – 1,20 Euro) plus ca. 50 Rand pro Stunde für die Fahrzeit. Bei RIKKIS bezahlt man eine feste pauschale zwischen 12 und 20 südafrikanischen Rand. Startet man zum Beispiel in der Stadt und möchte nach Camps Bay kostet das 20 ZAR! Möchte man aber nur in der Innenstadt von Kapstadt transportiert werden, sind lediglich 12 ZAR fällig. …
