Ein Sprecher von Bildungsministerin Annette Schavan (CDU) sagte die Bundesregierung will das Bafög zum 1. Oktober 2010 erhöhen. Einige Berichte zuvor spekulierten das die Bundesregierung einer Erhöhung nicht zustimmen würde und die Erhöhung somit auf der Kippe stehe. Die Bafög-Erhöhung ist eine der wichtigen Forderungen protestierender Schüler und Studenten beim so genannten Bildungsstreik. Die gleichzeitige Einführung einer leistungsorientierten nationalen Stipendienförderung werde ein weiterer Teil der Förderung werden, von dem zehn Prozent der Studenten profitieren sollen. In Gesprächen mit den Bundesländern müssen noch der Umfang und die Höhe festgelegt werden. Wer sich sich über die verschieden Stipendien informieren möchte kann das bei Stipendiumplus.de tun.
