Mit immer mehr Flatrateangeboten zu Festnetznummern ist das Anrufen an sich günstiger geworden. Als Student ist man aber immer häufiger fuer mehrere Monate im Ausland (zum Beispiel: Südafrika). Skype hat ganz neu unbegrenzte Anrufe ins europäische oder sogar weltweite Festnetz.
Mit Skype on the Go kann man sogar von zum Beispiel London, von seinem Handy, günstig oder sogar inkl. nach Deutschland telefonieren. Auch wenn man am südlichen Punkt, des Kontinents Afrika, in Kapstadt im Praktikum oder Urlaub ist, muss man nicht auf das Internet verzichten. Heutzutage mit Email und Skype oder IQC ist man überall ganz nah zuhause. In Kapstadt kann man meist in eines der vielen Internet Cafes in der Kloof Street oder Longstreet gehen. Aber auch Cafes wie das News Cafe oder Vida e Cafe haben kostenloses wireless Internet. Dazu braucht man dann nur noch einen Apple Notebook oder ein Handy mit W-Lan!

In Zeiten des Hip Hop, Urban Style oder Funky House gibt es in der Welt ebenso rhythmische Musik wie zum Beispiel Kwaito. Der wohl berühmteste Südafrikaner ist Mandoza! Der Name Kwaito kommt wahrscheinlich von Kwaai (Afrikaans für: Cool sein, Wut oder Energie) und To für die Townships, oder eine Anspielung auf die legendäre Amakwaitos-Gang aus dem Soweto der 1950er¹. Ein sehr gutes Album mit weitgefecherter Vielfalt des südafrikanischen Urban Styles ist auf dem Tales of Urban Album.

Der unter Verdacht stehende Radrennfahrer Jan Ullrich nimmt als Hobby-fahrer am Sonntag den 9. März 2008 an der Cape-Argus-Tour teil. Er selbst werde den Startschuss geben und dann dem Feld folgen. Die Strecke geht über 110km und es werden 40000 Teilnehmer erwartet. Ullrich wird mit seiner Frau Sara ein Hilfsprojekt besuchen.

Am Samstag, den 1. März 2008, findet das jährliche Radrennen in Kapstadt, wieder seine Fans und Teilnehmer. Alle internationalen Teilnehmer können sich noch bis zum Samstag vor dem Cape Argus Pick n Pay Radrennen registrieren. Die Anmeldung findet auf der Website von cycletour.co.za statt. Die Teilnahme – Gebühr für internationale Teilnehmer beträgt 450 südafrikanische Rand (ca. 39,71 Euro). Letztes Jahr haben 41,279 Menschen an dem Event teilgenommen und 30.095 Menschen haben das Rennen beendet. Die Anzahl der internationalen Radrennfahrer(innen) belief sich auf 2.054.
